How do I change the number of Mondays for NIS contributions?

In Trinidad and Tobago, national insurance contributions are deducted based on the number of Mondays (4 or 5 per month).  There may be instances (employee on leave, employee starts employment in the middle of the month) where the number of Mondays needs to be adjusted.  To do this, cycle changes are entered.

POWERpay>>Process Payroll>>Cycle Changes

The system will deduct national insurance contributions for the number of Mondays indicated here.

To indicate the date from which the NIS contributions should be deducted:

2.  For number of Mondays less than the number of Mondays in Pay Cycle

The date MUST be in the format ddmmyyy.

  • If the number of Mondays entered is less than the number of Mondays in the pay cycle, then the system will count the number of the Mondays starting from the date entered in the CCentre/Other column.
  • In the above example the number of Mondays is 2 (less than the number of Mondays in the pay cycle of May 2012 (4 Mondays).  Therefore, the system will apply the NIS contributions from  14th May 2012 for 2 Mondays.  This will be reflected in the NI 184 report.

3.  For number of Mondays more than the number of Mondays in Pay Cycle

The date MUST be in the format ddmmyyy.

  • If the number of Mondays entered is more than the number of Mondays in the pay cycle, then the system will apply the number of Mondays for the current cycle and take out the extra Mondays starting from the date entered in the CCentre/Other column.
  • In the above example, the number of Mondays is 6 (more than the number of Mondays in the pay cycle of March 2012 (4 Mondays).
  • The system will apply the NIS contributions for the 4 Mondays in March 2012 and then apply NIS contributions for 2 Mondays starting from 20th February 2012.  This will be reflected in the NI 184 report.
